Day 1 · 4 stops

  1. Sagrada Família

Basílica de la Sagrada Família, Eixample

Gaudí's unfinished basilica, under construction since 1882. Inside, the stained glass turns the stone forest into color.

Tip: Timed tickets only; morning light comes through the east (Nativity) side.

  2. Casa Batlló & Casa Milà

    Passeig de Gràcia, Eixample

Two Gaudí houses on Passeig de Gràcia: the "house of bones" and La Pedrera with its warrior-like chimneys on the roof.

  3. Gràcia

A village-like neighborhood of small squares, independent shops and terraces — a local favorite for evening drinks.

  4. Bunkers del Carmel

    Turó de la Rovira

Civil War anti-aircraft bunkers with a 360° view over the city. Popular at sunset.

Tip: It's a steep walk up; bring water and a jacket for after sunset.

Day 2 · 4 stops

  1. Gothic Quarter

    Barri Gòtic

Narrow medieval lanes around Barcelona Cathedral, Plaça Reial and the bridge on Carrer del Bisbe.

  2. La Boqueria Market

Mercat de la Boqueria, La Rambla

The famous food market off La Rambla — fruit cups, jamón and stand-up tapas counters like Bar Pinotxo.

Tip: Watch your pockets on La Rambla; closed Sundays.

  3. El Born & Santa Maria del Mar

Basílica de Santa Maria del Mar, El Born

A soaring Catalan Gothic church in a neighborhood of tapas bars, cocktail bars and the Picasso Museum.

  4. Barceloneta Beach

    Platja de la Barceloneta

The city beach, best for a late-afternoon swim and a paella or seafood dinner on the promenade.

Day 3 · 4 stops

  1. Park Güell

    Park Güell, Gràcia

Gaudí's hillside park with the mosaic salamander and the serpentine bench over the city.

Tip: The monumental zone needs a timed ticket; the rest of the park is free.

  2. Montjuïc

The hill of the 1992 Olympics, with gardens, the castle and the cable car. The National Art Museum of Catalonia has a great terrace view.

  3. Magic Fountain of Montjuïc

    Font Màgica de Montjuïc

A light and music fountain show on some evenings below the National Palace.

Tip: Show days change by season and pause in droughts; check the schedule.

  4. Poble-sec tapas on Carrer de Blai

    Carrer de Blai, Poble-sec

A pedestrian street of pintxos bars where small bites are a couple of euros each — an easy final dinner after Montjuïc.
